Examples of Great Travel WritingA Sense of Place, Great Travel Writers Talk About Their Crafts, Lives and Inspiration, with Michael Shapiro, is an inspirational book for writers as it tells the stories from other writers. The Best American Travel Writing 2008 by Anthony Bourdain and Jason Wilson acknowledges the provocative writing that he calls the best. Ironically, Bordain's taste in writing is rather dark. Nevertheless, good writers must be well-read, and it is worth it to read as much in the travel writing genre as possible. All readers may not agree with Bourdain's selections, but it is a good exercise to read work that another writer has labeled as the best and analyze why the writing is the best. Female writers, in particular may find that this book is a must for their collection. Women who are interested in tapping into the adventure writing market will note that this book is a great find. Consequently, female travel writers may also be interested in the Best Women's Travel Writing 2008.
